Context

Apolo was born from the need artists have for a platform that can showcase their work in a dynamic and engaging way. From 3D animation to illustration, photography and fashion, the platform provides a space where every form of artistic expression can shine.

I approached this project using Design Thinking, in order to fully understand the user needs before jumping into design.

Discover

To understand the behaviors and challenges of artists, I conducted desk research, netnography analysis, a personal interview with a professional concept artist, and an online survey. I also performed competitor benchmarking and a SWOT analysis to assess the strengths and weaknesses of existing platforms.

Define

Using the research findings, I created a User Persona to represent the target audience and mapped a customer journey to understand their goals and challenges.

Ideate

During ideation, I explored multiple potential features and prioritized them using MoSCoW, along with competitor benchmarking, SWOT analysis and the Value and Business Proposition Canvas.

The onboarding

The home feed displays posts from followed artists alongside a recommendation feed for discovering new talent, with engagement options to like, comment, and save posts in private or public folders.

The app also features a ‘Discover’ screen where new content tailored to your various interests is continuously displayed and organized into categories. This functionality helps emerging and upcoming artists gain visibility and recognition.

User profiles display information, uploaded posts, organized folders and patronage options, connecting users who want to support artists financially with creators seeking a professional income from their work.

Landing Page

I also designed a desktop-responsive landing page to highlight key features and clearly communicate the app’s value proposition.

Conclusion

Based on testing insights, the final design:

  • Streamlined navigation for a smoother user flow.
  • Highlighted interactive elements to increase engagement.
  • Optimized portfolio layouts to showcase artwork and storytelling effectively.

Apolo is a clean, intuitive platform that combines the best features of existing artist apps while adding key tools like a patronage system to support creators professionally.
